Israel will probably not be able to win a war with Hezbollah in Lebanon, because after the invasion of Gaza, its forces will be too weak, writes The Washington Post, referring to the assessment of the US Military Intelligence Agency (DIA).
The publication claims that Biden administration officials have warned Israeli leaders not to engage in direct conflict with Hezbollah.
The newspaper quoted unnamed officials as saying the Israeli military has attacked “US-funded and trained Lebanese armed forces” more than 30 times since the start of the Gaza war.
“US officials are concerned that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu may see the extended fighting in Lebanon as key to his political survival amid domestic criticism,” the publication said.
