A Sky News Arabia correspondent reported today, Friday, that the town of Sderot, near Gaza, will be evacuated starting next Sunday.
The Israeli Kan channel said that Israeli government ministers approved a plan to evacuate residents of the towns surrounding Gaza.
Sderot has great importance because it is one of the largest Israeli communities around the Gaza envelope, and it also represents the closest Israeli community to Gaza, as it is only about 1.5 kilometers away from it.
Sderot extends over an area of 5 kilometers and was established in 1951 on the lands of the Palestinian village of Najd, inhabited by more than 27 thousand people. It is equipped with high-energy laser systems to confront missiles.
The Israeli authorities announced on Thursday that the total death toll from the attack launched by Hamas on Israel had risen to 1,300 people, in addition to more than 3,300 wounded, including dozens in critical condition.
