Israeli tanks penetrated today to the greatest depth in southern Lebanon since the beginning of the war, reaching the outskirts of the city of Hiam, about six kilometers from the border, reported the telegraph agency. official Lebanese NNA, announced by BTA.
“A large number of Israeli occupation armored tanks” were positioned on a hill east of Hiam, the group said. The Israeli army launched a ground operation against Hezbollah on September 30, along with intensive airstrikes in several areas of Lebanon, according to AFP.

The Lebanese group “Hezbollah” announced earlier today that Naim Qassem, until now number two in the hierarchy of the pro-Iranian group, will succeed its leader Hassan Nasrallah, who was was killed in an Israeli strike a month ago, reports AFP. “The Shura (Hezbollah’s ruling council) has decided to elect Sheikh Naim Qassem as Secretary General of Hezbollah,” the Shiite Islamist group at war with Israel said in a statement.
Hassan Nasrallah was killed on September 27 in an Israeli airstrike on the south bank of Beirut which is believed to be a stronghold of Hezbollah. His deputy, Hashem Saffiedin, was killed in another Israeli strike in early October. His death was confirmed last week by Hezbollah. Several other leaders of the group were also killed. Seventy-year-old Naim Kassem helped found Hezbollah in 1982. In 1991, he became the movement’s deputy secretary general, a year after the supposed settlement agreements Lebanon after the civil war (1975-1990)
After Hassan Nasrallah’s death, Naim Qassem gave three televised speeches, the last of which was on October 15. In his latest statement, he said a “ceasefire” was the “solution” that would allow the return of northern Israelis who had been displaced by the Hezbollah shell over the past year, threat if he does not strike “everywhere” in Israel.
