Israeli Tanks Hit Quneitra Province in Syria

DAMASCUS – Army tanks Israel shelling the Syrian province of Quneitra. The attack was reported by the Syrian news agency SANA on Thursday (6/1/2022).

“Israeli helicopters and reconnaissance aircraft are flying over the area intensively,” the SANA report said.

“On Tuesday, the United States (US)-led Coalition carried out an attack on a rocket site in Syria that poses a threat to its forces,” Reuters reported, citing a US Coalition official who spoke on condition of anonymity.

Monday (3/1/2022) marked the second anniversary of the assassination of Qasem Soleimani, the commander of Iran’s elite Quds Force of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, who was killed in a US air strike on the outskirts of Baghdad.

Israeli forces frequently target the Syrian town of Quneitra. According to a 2019 SANA report, Israeli tank shells targeted a hospital in Quneitra and a nearby observation post.

Quneitra is located just across the border on the Golan Heights, in the demilitarized zone between countries.
