Israeli Tanker Attacked by Suicide Drone

WASHINGTON – A tanker billionaire’s oil Israel attacked offshore Oman . At least two crew members died in the attack, marking the first fatalities after years of attacks targeting expeditionary ships in the region.

The attack on Thursday night targeted a tanker in the northeast of Oman’s Masirah island, more than 300 kilometers southeast of the Omani capital, Muscat.

There was no immediate responsibility for the attack that occurred on Thursday night on the Liberian-flagged tanker Mercer Street. But an official United States of America (US) said it appears the attack used drone commit suicide.

Speaking on condition of anonymity, the US official said the attack appeared to have been carried out by a “one-way” drone and that other drones took part. AP, Saturday (31/7/2021).

The office did not say it was unknown who launched the attack and declined to provide further explanation.

This statement comes after an earlier report from private maritime intelligence firm Dryad Global referred to the drone involvement prior to the attack on the ship.

This fact increases the possibility of involvement of foreign governments or militia groups. In the past, the Houthi-backed rebels Iran have used a suicide drone. The plane is loaded with explosives that explode when it hits its target.

However, without providing any evidence, an Israeli security official said Iran was behind the attack on the ship referring to similar incidents in the past.
