An Israeli student was the victim of an anti-Semitic stabbing attack on Friday night in the Brooklyn neighborhood of New York. Fortunately, he was released from the hospital only a few hours after the incident.
During this attack, the two attackers approached the student asking if he was Jewish. After confirming his Jewishness, he was stabbed in the arm, apparently with a screwdriver. Shocked by this attack, he immediately shared his experience with Yaacov Behrman, a representative of the Jewish community in the Crown Heights district, who relayed the incident on social networks.
“An investigation is currently underway to determine if this is a hate crime. According to the victim, he was questioned about his Jewish identity. Although visibly traumatized, the victim expressed his gratitude for not having sustained more serious injuries,” Behrman said after the attack.
“This incident is very concerning and we have full confidence in the ability of the NYPD to thoroughly investigate and apprehend the perpetrators of the assault,” he added. The Anti-Defamation League also confirmed the incident and said it was in contact with law enforcement and community partners to address the matter.
According to the anti-Semitism organization, anti-Jewish acts in the United States increased by nearly 30% in 2022. The number of 3,697 anti-Semitic incidents recorded in the country last year is “the highest never recorded since the ADL began tracking anti-Semitic incidents in 1979”.
