Israeli Strike on al-Ahli Arab Hospital in Gaza: Conflicting Reports on Cause and Casualties

Hamas said Israel hit al-Ahli Arab Hospital in the Gaza Strip, likely killing hundreds, while Israel’s IDF said the blast was caused by a failed Palestinian rocket launch.

Details: The Hamas Health Ministry said an Israeli airstrike hit a Gaza hospital overflowing with wounded on Tuesday. The agency reported that at least 500 people could have died, and hundreds more are under the rubble. At the same time, according to the Palestinian Ministry of Health, at least 200 people died in the hospital.

An Israeli army spokesman said an investigation into this information was ongoing. In the evening, the IDF accused the Palestinian Islamic Jihad group of launching the rocket.

Israeli TV channel i24 reported that this could be a consequence of an unsuccessful rocket launch by Hamas.

OSINT analysts of the same opinion suggest that the footage from Gaza most likely shows the landing of a Hamas rocket, and not the consequences of an IDF air strike.

The head of the Palestinian Authority, Mahmoud Abbas, declared three days of mourning for the victims of the hospital attack. Egypt, following Hamas, blamed Israel for the attack on the hospital.
