“IOF occupation in the West Bank. The Israeli army threw a stun grenade into the mosque when the muezzin called the call to prayer. This incident happened in Budrus, W Ramallah,” said Younis Tirawi in his post.
Al Quds Al Arabiya news agency reported that the chairman of the local village council, Nasser Marar, confirmed the incident. “The incident occurred during morning prayers on Friday at the Budrus Grand Mosque,” he said.
“The soldier threw a grenade during the call to prayer, just before the congregation started arriving at the mosque,” he continued.
For this reason, Marar confirmed that there were no casualties in the incident. However, he said, this action was a clear manifestation of a blatant violation of the sanctity of the mosque.
In this regard, the Israeli news agency reported that IOF had given a statement regarding the action of its members who threw grenades at the mosque.
“This is a serious incident that goes against IOF’s values,” he said in a statement.
Apart from that, IOF said that they had removed the soldier concerned from his post after learning about his action which went viral on social media.
“He will be thoroughly investigated and (disciplined) as appropriate,” continued the statement from IOF.
