Israeli Soldier Killed in Rocket Attack from Lebanon, Retaliatory Strikes by Israeli Army

An Israeli soldier has been killed in a rocket attack from Lebanon on the city of Safed. Four people have been killed in a counterattack by the Israeli army in Lebanon.

According to the Israeli army, the rockets on Safed came from Lebanon. The government of the northern Israeli city reports that rockets hit an army base, an industrial area and near a hospital.

The soldier who died was a twenty-year-old woman and died on the army base. Eight others were injured in the attack. No claim of responsibility for the attack has yet been made.

The Israeli military reports that it has carried out several retaliatory attacks on Lebanon. It is said to have hit Hezbollah targets.

Four people were killed in those attacks in Lebanon, including a Syrian woman and her two children. The other fatal victim was a member of Hezbollah, the militant group itself reported. At least ten people were injured.

Israel and Hezbollah, which backs Hamas, have fired rockets near the Israel-Lebanon border almost every day since the war between Israel and Hamas broke out. According to news agency AFP at least 243 people were killed in Lebanon. Many of the victims were members of Hezbollah, but at least 30 civilians were also killed. At least 9 soldiers and 6 civilians were killed on the Israeli side.
