Jakarta –
settler Israel leaving illegal outposts in the West Bank. The action is to comply with the agreement reached.
Reported from AFP on Saturday (3/7/2021), settlers left the location using Israeli military and police cars. The last car came out of Eviatar, near the Palestinian city of Nablus, according to the deadline on Friday (2/7/2021) at 16.00 local time.
“I hope we’ll be back here soon,” Sarah Lisbon told AFP.
“We can build a big house,” he said.
It is known that dozens of families built settlements a few weeks ago. Within weeks, settlers built rudimentary concrete houses, and erected huts and tents on hilltops in the North West Bank, a Palestinian territory occupied by Israel since 1967.
The move was against international and Israeli law and sparked protests from Palestinians. Palestinians insist that the Jewish community is building on their land.
Under the terms of the deal published by the Israeli government, on Thursday (1/7/2021), the settlers must leave by Friday (2/7) afternoon. However, their structures can remain and will be guarded by the Israeli military.
Israel’s land ministry said it would study the area to assess whether it could be recognized under Israeli law and declared state land.
If that happens, Israel could then allow a religious school to be built in Eviatar, with housing for its staff and students.
