On Tuesday, 6 Israelis were wounded by gunfire in the “Ma’ale Adumim” settlement, east of Jerusalem, before the police shot and killed the perpetrator.
And the last toll of the number of injured, announced earlier in the day, was 5, according to a tweet by the National Rescue Organization in Israel, “Magen David Adom” on Twitter.
The Israeli police confirmed, in a statement, a copy of which was sent to Anadolu Agency, that a shooting incident occurred near the commercial complex in Ma’ale Adumim.
It said, “An officer from the Border Police was present at the scene off duty and neutralized the attacker,” without giving further details.
In turn, Shaare Zedek Hospital in Jerusalem reported that it had received 3 injured people, two of whom were seriously injured, and the third suffered a minor injury.
Hadassah Har Tzufim Hospital also received 3 people who were slightly injured in the attack, according to the Hebrew newspaper, Yedioth Ahronoth.
While the Israeli police did not reveal the identity of the attacker, Yedioth Ahronoth reported that the perpetrator of the Ma’ale Adumim attack was Muhannad al-Mazra’a, 20, from the village of Al-Eizariya in Jerusalem.
For his part, the Israeli Minister of National Security, Itamar Ben Gvir, said upon his visit to the site of the attack: “I heard about the officer who neutralized the terrorist, and I was deeply affected. This is exactly what we want. Tightening the noose and engagement, determination, neutralization and swift action.”
He added, “The combination of civilians, fighters, and policemen who protect Israel is the right approach, and this is the policy we follow in the ministry, to distribute the largest possible number of weapons to civilians.”
Ben Gvir continued: “We are grateful to the officer (who neutralized the attacker). It is good for the people of Israel to kill and neutralize as many terrorists as possible.”
In the context, the Israeli Prime Minister’s Office announced in a statement that Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is following up on reports with Defense Minister Yoav Gallant about the attack.
In turn, the Palestinian Ministry of Health said in a statement, a copy of which was received by Anadolu Agency, that the Palestinian Civil Affairs Authority (the official coordination body with Israel) officially informed it of the martyrdom of the young Muhannad Muhammad Suleiman Al-Mazra’a (20 years old) by Israeli occupation bullets, east of Jerusalem.
The West Bank has been witnessing a state of extreme tension since last year, as a result of the escalation practiced by the Israeli army in Palestinian cities, camps and towns.
