Yaron Bob, from the Yated moshav, near the border with the Gaza Strip, brings his art as a message of peace to different communities in the United States.
Rockets into roses, or rockets transformed into roses, is the project that brought international recognition to Israeli visual artist Yaron Bob.
Bob is a sculptor who has long been working transforming materials from projectiles launched into Israeli territory into works of art, with the intention of transmitting a message of peace. Most of his works were built from shells that fell on Sderot, the Israeli town closest to the border. From that material Bob created Shabbat candles, a map of Israel, a mezuzah, and other figures, and some of them have already been exhibited in the White House and in other parts of the world.
After October 7, in which the sculptor survived the Hamas attack on the moshav where he lives, Yates, quite close to the Gaza Strip, Bob exhibited some of his works and gave his testimony about the attack on the Merrick Jewish Center of Long Island.
During the Hamas attack, the artist took refuge for 33 hours in a safe room without electricity or external communication. On Long Island, Bob said, “It’s really hard to express what happened to us on October 7th. It will be a brand that will last with us for generations.”
Furthermore, the sculptor said that many of his friends were murdered, and that he considers himself a refugee.
