Israeli researchers develop innovative medicine for heart failure nnda nnlt El Comercio Answers

Israeli doctors have developed an innovative medicine to treat heart failure, as announced by the Kaplan Medical Center in central Israel.

Heart failure, a condition in which heart activity fails to cause shortness of breath and edema, is the most common cause of mortality and hospitalizations of people over 65.

One of the main causes of heart failure is the disease amyloidosis (“Alzheimer’s of the heart”), which is the accumulation of proteins between the cells of the heart muscle, which alters the activity of the heart.

For many years, cardiac amyloidosis, like Alzheimer’s, has been considered an incurable disease.

Recently, for the first time, a drug that partially slows the heart injury process was approved by the United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA), but the path to healing is still long.

However, researchers at the Kaplan Medical Center have developed the innovative drug that has the potential to cure the disease.

His study, including successful animal experiments, was published in the “European Heart Journal.”

The new drug is an antibody that activates the cells of the immune system in the heart, thereby undoing the amyloid proteins that accumulate in the heart.

In this way, those heart muscle cells are protected and return to normal functioning.
