On Friday, Israeli raids led to the “total destruction” of at least three homes in the village of Kafr Kila in southern Lebanon, according to the official Lebanese News Agency and a local official.
The National News Agency reported that Israeli aircraft targeted the three houses in the morning, leading to their “complete destruction,” and also targeted another house in the afternoon, coinciding with an artillery shelling that hit a fifth house in the town.
Since the start of the war in Gaza following the Hamas attack on southern Israel on October 7, there has been a daily exchange of bombing on the border with Lebanon between the Israeli army and Hezbollah, which supports its ally, Hamas.
Israel responds by bombing border villages, killing more than 195 people in Lebanon, including at least 142 fighters from the Iranian-backed Hezbollah.
On the Israeli side, 15 people were killed, 9 soldiers and 6 civilians, according to the Israeli army.
The mayor of the town of Kafr Kila, Hassan Sheet, told Agence France-Presse: “About 100 residents remain in Kafr Kila, and fortunately the targeted homes were empty.”
The Israeli army announced, in a statement on Friday, that it “carried out air strikes and artillery and tank shelling on Hezbollah observation points and terrorist infrastructure” in the Houla and Kafr Kila sector.
In the afternoon, Hezbollah claimed responsibility for 3 attacks, including two against a “deployment of Israeli enemy soldiers” on the border, using a “Burkan” missile capable of carrying large explosive devices.
Israeli Army Chief of Staff Herzi Halevy said on Wednesday that the possibility of war breaking out “in the coming months” in northern Israel has become “much higher than it was in the past.”
On the same day, UN Secretary-General António Guterres warned that an “all-out confrontation” between the two sides would be “completely disastrous.”
