Israeli Prime Minister’s Secretive Stance on Hezbollah Removal Contradicts Public Declarations

Kan: Netanyahu’s declared positions on removing Hezbollah are different from what is going on secretly

Israeli Kan Reshet Bet radio reported on Tuesday that the declared positions of occupation Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu regarding the distance to which Israel demands the removal of Hezbollah in Lebanon are different from what is going on in closed halls.

The radio explained that during a session to discuss developments, held recently in the Foreign Affairs and Security Committee of the Israeli Knesset, it became clear that, contrary to the announced messages issued by the political and military levels in Israel, regarding the removal of Hezbollah deep into Lebanon, through the communications conducted by Israel With the United States and France, other completely different messages are being passed, especially with regard to how far Hezbollah should be kept.

The radio added that Netanyahu recently participated in a session of committee members, and explained that the desire is to establish a buffer zone up to the Litani River and to remove Hezbollah beyond it, out of the realization that without this, the residents of the north will not agree to return to their homes near the border, and therefore Israel will work to fully implement UN Resolution 1701 this time, Netanyahu told committee members.

But about a week after that, the radio added, in another session of the Parliamentary Foreign Affairs and Security Committee in the Knesset, a senior political official arrived and admitted before the committee that Israel was speaking publicly about the Litani Line, but in communications with the American and French mediators it made clear that it would be content with removing Hezbollah to The minimum required, only a few kilometers from the border.

The members of the committee were also informed that in a situation of this type, Hezbollah’s infrastructure would not be evacuated from the area, nor in the area extending to the point to which the party would move away.

This means that Hezbollah’s weapons depots, military points and sites, and all infrastructure will remain in place, even those close to the border.

The Hebrew Radio pointed out that this is only part of the details related to communications in light of international mediation attempts, to which Israel gives great approval.

She added that all of this was raised in the closed sessions of the committee, but it was not said publicly to the residents of the settlements and border towns with Lebanon, who were evacuated from their homes about two and a half months ago.

The residents of those areas put pressure on the government to provide radical solutions that would push Hezbollah beyond the Litani River and implement Resolution 1701, while others believe that a military operation is necessary to restore security and safety to those areas and enable the residents to return.

Israeli reports in recent days indicated the extent of the destruction that has occurred to a number of homes in those settlements since the beginning of the war.
