Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has asked opposition parties to form a “broad emergency government”, Israeli media report. He is said to have made an offer during a meeting with Yair Lapid of Yesh Atid and Benny Gantz of the Party of National Unity.
Gantz has said he is considering Netanyahu’s proposal and that an emergency government should only be about the security situation.

Meanwhile, Netanyahu has announced “strong retaliation for this black day” against Hamas. “Hamas has started a cruel and evil war. We will win that war, but the price is too heavy to bear,” he said. “Hamas wants to kill us all. This is an enemy that kills mothers and children in their homes, in their beds. An enemy that kidnaps the elderly, children, teenage girls.”
