Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu responds to President Biden’s critical comments on Gaza conflict

Jerusalem (CNN)– The Israeli Prime Minister commented, Benjamin Netanyahu Regarding the statements of US President Joe Biden, in which he described the Israeli response in the Gaza Strip as “exceeding the ceiling.”

“I appreciate Biden’s support for Israel since the beginning of the war, and I don’t know exactly what he meant by that,” Netanyahu said in an interview with ABC News broadcast on Sunday.

Netanyahu added: “Put yourself in Israel’s shoes. We were attacked, an unprovoked attack, a deadly attack on October 7, 2023, which is the worst attack on the Jewish people since the Holocaust.”

Netanyahu went on to say that Israel “responded in a way that pursues terrorists and tries to reduce the number of civilian population (dead).”

The Israeli Prime Minister added: “We dropped thousands of leaflets, phoned the Palestinians in their homes, asked them to leave, and provided them with safe corridors and safe areas (…) I believe we are doing the right thing, and let me tell you something else, we will win, victory is at hand.” .

On Thursday, President Biden issued one of his harshest criticisms to date of the Israeli military operation in Gaza, saying that the process of pursuing Hamas had “exceeded the ceiling.”

ABC News anchor Jonathan Karl then reminded Netanyahu of the death toll reported by the Hamas-controlled Health Ministry in Gaza, which exceeds 28,000 so far.

Netanyahu responded, saying: “I will be careful about Hamas’ statistics, and I can tell you that according to war experts (…) we have reduced the ratio of civilian casualties to terrorists to less than 1 to 1, which is much lower than in any other similar war, and we will do more.” According to his claim.

According to figures released by the Hamas-run Ministry of Health in the Gaza Strip on Sunday, at least 112 Palestinians were killed in the past 24 hours, bringing the total death toll in the Strip since October 7 to 28,176.

Netanyahu’s statements came while Biden is expected to hold telephone talks with him on Sunday, according to what a spokesman for the US National Security Council announced.

A source familiar with the upcoming call said it would focus on the hostages still being held in Gaza.
