Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu: War Against Hamas Will Be Long and Difficult

GAZA, KOMPAS.com – Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Saturday (28/10/2023) said the war against Hamas would be long and difficult.

Most recently, the Israeli military has surrounded the Hamas-controlled Gaza Strip and expanded its ground operations there.

“The war in the (Gaza) Strip will be long and difficult and we are ready to face it,” Netanyahu said at a press conference, quoted by the AFP news agency.

The press conference was held after Netanyahu met the families of hostages held in Gaza since the latest Hamas vs Israel war broke out on October 7 2023.

Netanyahu’s comments came after Israeli ground troops entered Gaza via massive air and artillery strikes on Friday (27/10/2023) night, which opened a new phase of Israel’s attack.

“This is the second phase of the war whose objectives are clear: to destroy Hamas’ military capabilities and leadership, and to repatriate the hostages,” Netanyahu added.

“We made the decision to expand ground operations unanimously.”

Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Gallant on Saturday (28/10/2023) said that the Israel-Hamas war was entering a new phase with intensive bombing in the Gaza Strip.

“We have entered a new phase in the war. Last night the ground in Gaza shook. We attacked above and below ground,” Gallant said in the video, quoted by the AFP news agency. He referred to the network of military tunnels that Hamas built under Gaza.

Earlier on Friday (27/10/2023) evening, Israel increased its air strikes in the Gaza Strip, razing hundreds of buildings and thousands of houses to the ground.

The latest Hamas vs Israel war broke out on Saturday (7/10/2023), causing 1,400 deaths in Israel and the majority of them were civilians.

Meanwhile, in Gaza more than 7,700 people were killed including around 3,500 children, according to the Hamas-controlled territory’s Ministry of Health.
