“Israel will for an indefinite period have overall security responsibility,” Netanyahu was quoted as saying AFPTuesday (7/11).

“When we don’t have that security responsibility, what we have is an eruption of Hamas terror on a scale we cannot imagine,” Netanyahu continued.

Netanyahu said this after the White House said the Israeli leader had discussed the potential for a humanitarian pause in a telephone call with United States President Joe Biden on Monday (6/11).

However, no agreement was announced after the talks. Neither of them discussed the possibility of a ceasefire. In fact, the majority of countries around the world and the international community urge that a ceasefire be implemented immediately.

Israel’s aggression in the Gaza Strip has now entered one month since it broke out on October 7. More than 10 thousand people died, of which 4,104 were children.

United Nations (UN) Secretary General Antonio Guterres said Gaza had now become a “graveyard for children.”

Even though civilian casualties have fallen to such an extent, Netanyahu remains adamant that he does not want a ceasefire because he believes that the available time will be used by Hamas to regroup.

He also set a condition that if he wanted a ceasefire, the Israeli citizens who were being held hostage must be completely released.

“There will be no general ceasefire in Gaza without the release of our citizens held hostage,” Netanyahu said.

As many as 240 Israeli citizens have been held hostage by Hamas since this armed group launched attacks on a number of Israeli cities early last month. The hostages included elderly civilians to children.

“From a tactical point of view, temporary pauses of an hour here, an hour there, we have experienced before. I think we will check the situation to allow humanitarian aid to come in and our citizens who are being held hostage to come out,” Netanyahu said.
