REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, ANKARA — Prime Minister of Israel Benjamin Netanyahu on Friday (15/12/2023) mourned the deaths of three hostages held by Hamas in Gaza. They were said to have been killed accidentally by Israeli troops, Netanyahu said it was a very serious tragedy.

“Along with all the people of Israel, I bow my head in deep sadness and mourn the death of our three beloved sons who were taken hostage,” Netanyahu wrote on social media X. “The entire State of Israel mourns tonight.”

He added that the incident was an important lesson. Defense Minister Yoav Gallant also mourned and described the killing as painful for every Israeli.

“We must remain steadfast and continue to carry out operations for the sake of our hostages, citizens and soldiers,” Gallant said.

Meanwhile, family members of the hostages demonstrated Friday near the Defense Ministry offices in Tel Aviv following the announcement of the killing of the hostages by Israeli forces.

Previously, military spokesman Daniel Hagari said Israeli army accidentally killed three hostages during fighting in Gaza. He described the incident as tragic, and said that Israeli forces were responsible for the killing.

The Hamas group has not commented on the announcement.

Israel bombarded the Gaza Strip from the air and land, carrying out sieges and ground attacks in retaliation for cross-border attacks by Hamas on October 7. At least 18,800 Palestinians died and 51,000 others were injured in aggressive Israeli attacks, according to Gaza health authorities.

Israel’s death toll in Hamas attacks reached 1,200, while more than 130 hostages are still being held by the Palestinian group in Gaza, according to official government figures.
