Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu was transferred – today, Saturday – to the emergency room in a hospital near Tel Aviv, after feeling a sudden illness, according to Hebrew media.
Netanyahu’s office said in a brief statement, “The prime minister arrived a short while ago at Sheba Hospital. His condition is good, and he is under medical evaluation,” noting that more details will be published later.
And official and private Hebrew media reported that Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu was transferred to the emergency room at Sheba Hospital in the Tel Hashomer area of Ramat Gan, near Tel Aviv, due to a sudden feeling of ill health.
Preliminary checks
The Israeli Prime Minister’s Office said that Netanyahu’s initial examinations did not find anything abnormal, and the initial evaluation indicated that he was dehydrated, noting that the doctors recommended that he continue to undergo routine examinations.
For its part, the Israeli Channel 12 said – without mentioning sources – that Netanyahu complained of chest pain before he was taken to the hospital.
Walla, a prominent Israeli news site, quoted an unnamed official close to Netanyahu as saying he fainted but was fully conscious in hospital. The report could not yet be confirmed.
It is not yet clear who might replace him in the event of an emergency transfer of power.
Netanyahu had previously felt unwell on Yom Kippur, the Jewish fast, in early October and was taken to hospital for a short time.
Netanyahu is 73 years old, and has served as prime minister in Israel at intermittent periods for more than 14 years.
