Israeli president condemns attack on Golan Heights

Madrid. Israeli President Isaac Herzog has criticized the world’s passivity following the attacks on northern Israel after ten people, all civilians and including minors, were killed in an attack on the Druze town of Majdal Shams in the Israeli-occupied Golan Heights on Saturday. Herzog has pointed the finger at the Lebanese militia party Hezbollah as responsible.

“The world can no longer sit silently in the face of (Hezbollah leader Hassan) Nasrallah’s terror attacks, carried out on the orders of Iran’s evil empire,” Herzog said, according to The Times of Israel.

“Hezbollah, armed and financed by Iran, does not distinguish between children and adults, soldiers and civilians, Jews or Muslims, Druze or Christians. Hezbollah terrorists have today brutally attacked and murdered children whose only crime was to go out to play football. They have not returned,” he said.

He warned that “the State of Israel will firmly defend its citizens and its sovereignty” after this “devastating” attack. “There are no words that can comfort the families of the young victims who have lost their lives through no fault of their own,” he added.

The Israeli foreign minister also pointed the finger at Hezbollah, which, however, denied any involvement in the attack. “There is no doubt that Hezbollah has crossed all the red lines. We are facing an open war,” he told Israel’s Channel 12.

Netanyahu says Hezbollah will pay a heavy price

Hezbollah will pay a heavy price for the rocket attack that killed 11 people, including children, on Saturday at a soccer field in a Druze village, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said.

“Hezbollah will pay a very heavy price, the likes of which it has not paid until now,” Netanyahu told the leader of Israel’s Druze community in a phone call, according to a statement from his office.
