Israeli PM’s Controversial Plans to Send Excess Vaccines to Allied Nations are suspended

TRIBUNNEWS.COM – Controversial plan Prime Minister Israel, Benjamin netanyahu, to send the excess corona virus vaccine to a group of allied countries is frozen, Thursday (25/2/2021).

Netanyahu’s office said this decision was taken following legal challenges to the agreement.

Quoting Al Jazeera, This is the latest policy that raises questions at home regarding Netanyahu’s decision-making authority.

The plan also illustrates how in times of global shortages, vaccines have become an asset that can be used for diplomatic gain.

Netanyahu announced Wednesday that he had personally decided to distribute small amounts of excess vaccine Israel with allied countries.

He did not specify which country he meant, but the media Israel reported that Israel will send shipments to 19 countries it has close or developing relations with Israel.

“I welcome the decision to freeze the transfer of vaccines to other countries,” Defense Minister Benny Gantz said on Twitter.

Gantz is in charge of Netanyahu’s government as he prepares to face him in elections next month.

Israel has had one of the launches already the Covid-19 vaccine fastest in the world, with nearly half the population having received a single dose.

However, Gantz said the decision to deliver a vaccine had to be made in the “right forum” and Netanyahu would not take that action himself.
