Israel’s parliament has passed a controversial bill to strip the Supreme Court of its powers, despite fierce popular protests in Jerusalem. The third and final vote on the bill passed unanimously, with the opposition boycotting it. The last round of negotiations led by the president to prevent the far-right government led by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu from voting failed. The new legislation removed the power of the Supreme Court to nullify government actions deemed unreasonable. The opposition responded that the government’s action was fascist. At the same time, the Israeli Political Watch Group announced that it will appeal against the new amendment law in the Supreme Court.
