Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – Members of the Israeli Parliament or Knesset called for the use of the Jericho intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM) to attack the Hamas militant group. This happened after the Palestinian group’s attack on Israel on Saturday (7/10/2023).
A Knesset member from Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s Likud party, Revital Gotliv, said Jericho should be used to level Gaza without mercy. The missile is known to have a large destructive effect, because it can carry a nuclear warhead.
“Jericho Missile! Jericho Missile! Strategic warning before considering the introduction of force. Doomsday weapon! This is my opinion. May God protect all our forces,” wrote Gotliv in X, Monday (10/10/2023), as quoted Russia Today.
Jericho is the name of Israel’s ICBM, the latest version of which is capable of striking almost anywhere in the world. Israel is known to have 100-200 nuclear warheads, something the government in West Jerusalem has neither confirmed nor denied.
On Tuesday, Gotliv followed up his post about nuclear missiles with another post calling for the “destruction and leveling of Gaza.”
“Only an explosion that rocked the Middle East will restore the dignity, strength and security of this country! It’s time to kiss the end of the world. Shoot powerful missiles without limits. Without leveling the environment,” he wrote.
“Not with slogans, but with bombs. Without mercy!,” added Gotliv.
Previously, rocket attacks were launched into Israeli territory from the Gaza Strip by the Hamas fighter group. Alarm signals sounded continuously in many areas across the country, including the Tel Aviv area and its surroundings.
In response, Tel Aviv initiated a military operation called “Iron Sword”. Several media reported that the Israeli Army had launched an attack on the Gaza Strip after massive rocket fire from the Palestinian area.
The Palestinian movement’s wing Hamas issued a statement that during operations in Israel they arrested around 35 Israeli soldiers and settlers. Hamas revealed that this attack operation was a response to Israel’s aggressive activities against one of Islam’s holiest sites, the Al-Aqsa Mosque in the Old City of Jerusalem.
Reported Al Jazeera, more than 1,000 people on the Israeli side and at least 921 Palestinians have been killed with more than 4,600 others injured since the Hamas attack was followed by Israeli retaliatory attacks. The Israeli military claims to have killed 1,500 Hamas fighters.
