The spokesman for the Ministry of Health in the Gaza Strip, Dr. Ashraf Al-Qudra, said on Sunday that the Israeli occupation forces stormed Al-Awda Hospital, after several days of besieging and bombing it, and detained and stripped its medical staff, led by the hospital director, Dr. Ahmed Muhanna.
Al-Qudra pointed out that the occupation forces released the medical personnel after four hours of interrogation in inhumane conditions.
He added that the occupation forces kept the director of Al Awda Hospital, Dr. Ahmed Muhanna, in detention and took him to an unknown destination.
Al-Qudra continued: “We fear that the occupation forces will repeat the scenario of what happened at Kamal Adwan Hospital,” and called on international institutions to intervene urgently to protect the hospital, its staff, and those present in it.
In the same context, a woman was martyred and a number of Palestinians were injured in an Israeli bombing that targeted the maternity building at Nasser Hospital in Khan Yunis.
In turn, Director General of the Ministry of Health in Gaza, Munir Al-Bursh, said: “We found the bodies of martyrs and wounded who were swept away by the occupation bulldozer among piles of dirt in the yard of Kamal Adwan Hospital.”
Al-Barsh called for an international investigation into the premeditated complex crime committed by the occupation in the hospital.
He added: “We were exposed to fire from occupation snipers while holding our press conference at Kamal Adwan Hospital,” and pointed out that Jabalia Medical Center received more than 60 martyrs and about 90 wounded today.
The Director of the World Health Organization confirmed that the organization is horrified by the destruction of Kamal Adwan Hospital in northern Gaza during the past days, and continued by saying: “We are deeply concerned about the safety of the displaced people who are taking shelter in the Kamal Adwan Hospital building.”
He renewed the warning that “the health system in Gaza is in a state of virtual collapse, and the loss of another hospital constitutes a severe blow.”
