ÚLA – Motorcycle rider Jael Kadšaiová is the first Israeli participant to take part in the Dakar Rally.
The famous competition will be held in Saudi Arabia for the fifth year in January, and the young competitor will be competing in the Muslim country despite the war between her country and the Hamas movement. Starting at the Dakar has always been her big dream, but as she also stated, she wants to set an example by participating in the current wave of anti-Semitic views around the world.
“One may wonder if it is the right time to collect money for a motoring event in Israel, when the whole country is fighting against Hamas and for the liberation of prisoners,” stated Kadšaiová in the video accompanying her crowdfunding campaign, through which she raised funds.
She herself served in a special unit
She said that she herself served in the special forces and currently seven of her family members are participating in the fighting.
“Going to Dakar is my contribution to that war, despite the concerns about my loved ones. I want to send a signal against the global wave of anti-Semitism,” she declared.
“I want to show the whole world what women from Israel can do. There is nothing better than winning in a place where women are not allowed to do everything,” added the winner of the women’s category in this year’s demanding Morocco Desert Challenge rally and the eleventh runner overall.
The Dakar Rally will start on January 5 and is supposed to be the most difficult in recent years. A route with a total length of 7891 kilometers awaits the participants, of which 4727 km will be measured tests divided into 12 stages. Kašdaiová will be one of only two women at the start in the motorcycle category, along with another debutant Jane Daniels from Britain. He follows in the footsteps of his father, who in the past started at the Dakar Rally with a car, a motorcycle and a truck.
She has been riding since she learned to walk
“I’ve been riding an off-road motorcycle since the day I learned to walk. I grew up in conditions where motorsport was the focus, I was born for it,” she stated in her profile on the Dakar Rally website. She suspects that the Dakar will be a great test of her abilities.
“But I’m too competitive to think only about finishing the competition. I hope for a good result. I’m not used to the dunes, but I’ll give it my best.” said Kadšaiová.
