Gaza: It is reported that Mossad chief David Barnia will hold talks with Qatari Prime Minister Mohammad bin Abd al-Rahman al-Thani about a ceasefire in Gaza. Al Jazeera reported that the meeting was held in Oslo, the capital of Norway, on Saturday evening. Matters including the release of hostages will be discussed in the meeting.
There are massive protests in Israel after a military spokesman announced that three hostages had been accidentally shot dead in Gaza. Thousands, including relatives and family members of the hostages, marched to the Defense Ministry. Al Jazeera journalist Samir Abudaqah was killed in an Israeli attack and protests have also intensified.
At the same time, the Houthis’ continued violence in the Red Sea is becoming a major headache for Western powers and Israel. US security adviser Jack Sullivan said that a special task force would be formed in consultation with various countries to counter the Houthi attack. But the US cannot do anything against the Houthis in the Red Sea, said Hussein Al Bukhaiti, a political observer and journalist.
Earlier, after October 7, a week-long ceasefire was brokered by Qatar, Egypt and the United States. Accordingly, there was a four-day ceasefire and some of the prisoners on both sides were exchanged. The ceasefire was extended for two more days, but then fighting resumed. This is the first meeting between a senior Israeli official and a Qatari official since then.
