The Israeli military, which is continuing its attacks against the Palestinian armed political faction Hamas, carried out an attack on the Nasser Hospital in southern Gaza Strip yesterday (15th).
Prior to the attack, the Israeli military surrounded Nasser Hospital, a major medical facility in the region, for a week.
The Israeli military claimed that it had “reliable information” that Hamas was holding hostages kidnapped during a surprise attack on southern Israel on October 7 last year at the hospital, and that the bodies of the dead hostages could be in the hospital.
In relation to this, the Associated Press reported on this day that about 20 hostages were detained at Nasser Hospital at the time, citing a statement from a recently released hostage last month.
Israeli military spokesman Daniel Hagari said the operation against Nasser Hospital was being carried out in a “precise and limited” manner and that there would be no forcible transfer of medical staff or patients.
The attack came a day after the Israeli military warned thousands of Palestinian migrants who had taken refuge at the Nasser Hospital fleeing fighting between Israel and Hamas to leave.
On this day, the Israeli military released the identities of three people directly or indirectly involved with Hamas, including a Hamas ambulance driver, through social media X.
At the same time, they claimed that they were Hamas terrorists who participated in the Israeli raid in October last year or hid behind innocent civilians and confined Israeli hostages in the hospital.
Meanwhile, the U.S. White House announced that U.S. President Joe Biden and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu had a phone call that day to discuss the ongoing hostage negotiations.
The White House said President Biden and Prime Minister Netanyahu also discussed the urgency of ensuring support for Palestinian civilians in the Gaza Strip who are in dire need of humanitarian assistance.
