The front between Lebanon and Israel witnessed a major escalation today, Wednesday, as Israeli military bases were bombed in the vicinity of the city of Safed, followed by a response from the occupation army with bombing that targeted the towns of Al-Suwanah and Adshit in southern Lebanon, and another raid targeting the Jabal Al-Rayhan area.
In this context, the military and strategic expert, Major General Fayez Al-Duwairi, said that the rules of engagement between the Lebanese Hezbollah and the Israeli occupation are still disciplined, despite the extreme right’s calls to go to open war.
Al-Duwairi added that the international scene does not allow the scope of the conflict to expand, and the American administration does not want that, in addition to the major strikes that the Israeli army received in the Gaza Strip after about 4 months of fighting there.
He pointed out that the calculations are very precise for both sides of the conflict, “both of them do not want to slide into open war, and they prefer escalation to the extent that the other party escalates.”
Al-Duwairi pointed out that the political, economic and social conditions are harsh in Lebanon, “so Hezbollah did not slide into unity and open war due to strategic and other considerations related to the internal Lebanese level,” unlike the Ansar Allah Houthis, who threw all their cards during the Gaza war.
The military expert pointed out that there is a big difference in capabilities between Hezbollah and the Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas), because the latter has been under siege for years, while the former has an open supply route, “and its missile capabilities are much greater, and their quality is more effective.”
He revealed that Hezbollah has missiles that cover all areas of occupied Palestine and are capable of reaching the port of Eilat, adding that the party has missiles weighing 500 kilograms, and it also has accurate missiles that must be linked to Iran’s missile capabilities, which provided it with what it needs within the geographical range.
Regarding the number of missiles that Hezbollah possesses, Al-Duwairi revealed that reports say that it exceeded 150,000 missiles, and that it also has manufacturing capabilities, pointing to the Israeli strikes directed at mountainous areas in Syria, where they often target workshops for manufacturing or developing missiles, according to him.
He stressed that the military tension on Israel’s northern front falls within the scope of action and reaction since last October 8, as it went through periods of escalation and then relative calm, depending on the type of targets being targeted.
He added that the escalation was initially within a range of 5 kilometers, then it increased to 8, all the way to 20 kilometers, and it is still within this geographical range.
