The Israeli military has discovered a 700-meter-long tunnel network partially beneath the Gaza headquarters of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East. (Reuters)
The Israeli military carried out an air strike in the Rafah area of southern Gaza, killing three members of the Palestinian armed group Hamas.
Video released by the Israel Defense Forces showed the car the three were in came under airstrike in Rafah. The Israeli army said the main target of the airstrike was a senior Hamas member who is responsible for high-level security work for Hamas and holds an official position in the secret police department of the Rafah region.
Separately, the Israeli military discovered a 700-meter-long tunnel network partially beneath the headquarters of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East in Gaza. The accusation is the latest evidence that Hamas uses the relief agency.
UNRWA responded by saying that it evacuated its headquarters as early as five days after the fighting between Israel and Hamas broke out, and therefore could not confirm or comment on the Israeli findings, reiterating that whenever the agency detects something suspicious near or under a building, it immediately reports to the police All parties to the conflict, including Hamas and the Israeli authorities, protested.
