Eight people have been killed after an attack on a synagogue in Jerusalem and several others have been injured. The police have control over the perpetrator.

The police themselves tweet that there are large resources at the site in Neve Yaakov in Jerusalem. According to the MDA ambulance service, five people were pronounced dead at the scene. However, several media outlets report that the death toll has now risen to eight, including Haaretz and The Jerusalem Post.
The attack is said to have taken place at around 20.15 local time. According to the Israeli newspaper Haaretz, people are said to have been shot by the perpetrator as they came out of the synagogue. The newspaper writes that Hamas has taken responsibility for the attack.
– A police patrol quickly arrived at the scene and shot at the perpetrator, the police write on Twitter.
Both the police and the ambulance service refer to the attack as a terrorist attack.
– We saw a woman and four men lying on the road with gunshot wounds. There were no signs of life and we declared the dead immediately, says paramedic Fadi Dekidek at the MDA ambulance service to The Jerusalem Post newspaper.
The perpetrator’s state of health is currently unclear beyond this.
At least three to hospital with gunshot wounds
Among the three who have been taken to hospital are a 70-year-old who is critically injured, a 20-year-old who is seriously injured and a 14-year-old with moderate to serious injuries.
– This is a serious and complex attack with many victims. We are now searching the area to make sure that there are no more people involved who are walking around freely, says police chief Yaakov Shabtai in a statement on Twitter.
The United States condemns the attack in Jerusalem, which it believes appears to be a terrorist attack, according to a spokesperson from the United States Department of State, reproduced by Reuters.
