Israeli Intentions for Open War with Lebanon: Journalist Johnny Mounir’s Insights on Hezbollah and Political Dynamics

Journalist and political writer Johnny Mounir pointed out that “there are serious Israeli intentions to engage Lebanon in open war, considering that this is the right time with all this support, while Hezbollah is more dangerous to Israel than Hamas.”

In an interview with Al-Jadeed, Mounir added, “The French talk about the inevitability of open war in Lebanon is not accurate due to the American restraint and the failure of the cabinet agreement, as well as the Iranian position, but on the ground the nature of the military buildup is defensive.”

He continued, “What is happening could lead to damage to French relations with Iran and Hezbollah, but not to severing them completely.”

He added, “The international coalition against Hamas is on the table, but there are those who say that there is no project for the post-war period.”

He stressed that “the Minister of Defense was negligent in his duties in the last stage regarding the appointment of a Chief of Staff, while we still have a cohesive army leadership in the country.”

He pointed out that “a newly arrived person cannot manage the army institution. Either the House of Representatives calls for a session to extend the appointment of the army commander, or the government sends a draft law to the House of Representatives.”

He said: “A Gulf source conveyed something to me, which is that plans are being made for the post-Gaza phase to transfer a portion of Hamas officials to the camps in Lebanon.”
