Israeli Homeland Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir called for Jewish settlers to return to Gaza after the war and for the Palestinian population to be “encouraged” to emigrate, a day after another far-right minister made a similar call, AFP reported.

“It is necessary to support a decision that encourages the emigration of Gazans. It is a right, just, moral and humane decision. I am addressing the prime minister and the foreign minister, this is an opportunity to develop a project to promote the emigration of Gazans to other countries in the world,” Ben-Gvir said in a speech at a party meeting, which he himself shared on social networks.
Ben-Gvir claims that an eventual Palestinian departure from the Gaza Strip, which he calls for, will also pave the way for the restoration of Jewish settlements in Palestinian territory. In 2005, Israel evacuated its army and about 8,000 settlers from this Palestinian territory, occupied since 1967, as part of then-Prime Minister Ariel Sharon’s unilateral withdrawal plan.
Netanyahu is responsible for not preventing the Hamas attack, most Israelis believe
Encouraging the emigration of Gazans will allow us to bring back residents of the border area and Gush Katif, the former settlement block in Gaza, stressed Ben-Gvir, coyote leader of the far-right Jewish Power party.
In his youth, the Homeland Security Secretary was charged more than 50 times with inciting violence or hate speech, and in 2007 was convicted of supporting a terrorist group and inciting racism. As a zealous supporter of the Jewish colonization of the West Bank, he has repeatedly advocated the annexation of this occupied Palestinian territory, BTA recalls.
Yesterday, Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich, also a representative of the extreme right in Benjamin Netanyahu’s government, supported the idea of the return of Jewish settlers to Gaza and the emigration of its Palestinian population. In response, Hamas described these statements as “a call for the displacement of two million Palestinians” from Gaza and stressed that “this is a war crime.”
The current war in Gaza began after Hamas attacked Israeli territory, killing about 1,200 people, mostly civilians, and abducting hundreds of others into Gaza and holding them hostage.
