He said that Gaza does not need any kind of humanitarian aid. When asked about the future of the Palestinian people, Eliyahu replied that they should go to Ireland or some desert. After the statement became controversial, Eliyahu came forward with an explanation. The explanation is that he used figurative language. ‘Everyone understands that it is a figurative expression. Israeli opposition leader Yair Lapid came out with a strong reaction against the remark. Lapid described the statement as a crazy remark by an irresponsible minister. He also demanded that Netanyahu immediately expel the minister from the cabinet.
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu stated that Eliyahu’s statement is not true. The operation in Gaza is being carried out in accordance with international law, sparing innocent people. This will continue till victory – he added. Netanyahu’s office announced that Eliyahu was removed from the cabinet.
