Military spokesman Nir Dinar said some Israeli troops were fighting inside the Gaza Strip, but he declined to say whether the action was the start of a full-scale ground operation that Israel had planned to launch in recent weeks.
Over the course of two days, Israeli forces and tanks made small incursions into Gaza, he said.
“Our troops and tanks are inside the Gaza Strip – they shoot and they act. But our troops and tanks were inside Gaza yesterday,” said Major Dinar.
A second military official, Rear Adm. Daniel Hagari, told reporters earlier Friday that Israeli ground forces were “expanding” their activity in the Gaza Strip, without providing details. Admiral Hagari also said that warplanes were striking underground “terrorist infrastructure.”
Later, two unnamed American sources in the White House reportedthat Israel’s strikes on the Gaza Strip look like the beginning of a ground offensive, but highlight that the scale of the operation is not yet clear.
Israeli ground operation against Hamas
On the evening of October 27, IDF spokesman Daniel Hagari announced the start of offensive activity in the Gaza Strip. The IDF began striking Gaza.
It later turned out that Israel decided to attack the Gaza Strip because of Hamas’ refusal to release all the hostages. Negotiations with the militants have reached a dead end.
Let us recall that earlier it became known that the UN adopted a resolution on an immediate ceasefire in the Gaza Strip.
