Israeli Ground Forces Surround Gaza Strip as Airstrikes Hit Palestinian Territory: Benjamin Netanyahu’s Response to Hamas

Jakarta

Israeli ground forces surrounded the Gaza Strip and airstrikes hit the Palestinian territory. Prime Minister (PM) of Israel Benjamin Netanyahu said that there was a ceasefire in the war Israel oppose Hamas will not happen.

Reported AFPTuesday (31/10/2023), Netanyahu spoke to foreign journalists after telling his war cabinet that Israeli forces were making ‘systematic progress’ against the Hamas group in response to the October 7 attack.

Israel’s intensifying military operations are raising fears for Gaza’s 2.4 million residents, with the Hamas-controlled health ministry saying more than 8,300 people have been killed.

“The call for a ceasefire is a call for Israel to surrender to Hamas, to surrender to terrorism… this will not happen,” he said, vowing that Israel will fight until this battle is won.

The Israeli military said a female soldier was freed from captivity following an operation in Hamas-controlled territory.

“Ori Megidish was freed in a ground operation,” the army said, adding that he had been medically examined and was in good condition. Netanyahu’s office published a photo of him surrounded by family members.

The Israeli leader said the international community must demand that the remaining prisoners in Gaza be released immediately, without conditions.

As Israeli forces wage deadly battles with Hamas militants in the tiny Palestinian enclave and send tanks into the outskirts of Gaza City, concerns are growing about a widening humanitarian crisis.

Many hospitals in Gaza have been affected and the World Health Organization (WHO) has warned that patients cannot be safely transferred out of the war zone.
