Israeli National Security Advisor Tzachi Hanegbi said on Saturday that more than 7,000 Palestinian militants were killed during the war with Hamas in the Gaza Strip.
Hanegbi added in an interview with Israeli Channel 12, “This estimate is the minimum… (the number) could be more than that, because we do not know everything under the places that collapsed, the tunnels, etc., but this is a conservative estimate.”
Israel launched a massive bombing campaign and a ground operation in the Gaza Strip after the October 7 attack launched by the Hamas movement, in which 1,200 people were killed in Israel, most of them civilians, including women and children, in addition to the kidnapping of dozens by militants of the movement classified as terrorist in the United States and other countries.
Israel reports that 138 hostages, including women and children, who were taken to the Gaza Strip on the day of the attack, are still being held after the release of 105 hostages, including 80 Israelis, during the truce, in exchange for the Hebrew state releasing 240 Palestinian detainees from its prisons.
On Saturday, the Israeli army announced the killing of 5 Israeli soldiers, bringing the number of soldiers killed since the start of the ground attack on Gaza to 97.
For its part, the Hamas Ministry of Health announced on Saturday that the death toll from the Israeli bombing of the Gaza Strip had risen to 17,700 on the sixty-fourth day of the war.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu stressed on Saturday that Israel will move forward in its war against Hamas, praising Washington’s use of its veto against a draft UN resolution calling for a ceasefire.
Israeli Army Chief of Staff Herzi Halevy said on Saturday that there are indications of the collapse of the Hamas regime in Gaza, indicating the need to put more forceful pressure on the movement’s militants.
