Israeli delegation asked to leave African Union summit opening ceremony

The Israeli delegation was literally expelled from the opening ceremony of the African Union (AU) summit, which is taking place in Ethiopia.

The incident is reported on Saturday, February 18, the publication Times of Israelreferring to the press service of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Israel.

According to the official representative of the department Liora Hayataduring the ceremony, the representatives of the Israeli delegation were approached by security guards and urged them to leave the event.

“Israel takes seriously the incident in which the ambassador Sharon Bar-Lee removed from the African Union Hall despite her status as an accredited observer,” Hayat stated.

The Israeli Foreign Ministry stressed that they are saddened that the African Union has become “hostage of a small number of extremist countries”, such as Algeria and South Africa.

Tel Aviv believes that these states are driven by hatred and are under the control of Iran. Dissatisfaction with these countries is due to the fact that Pretoria and Algeria opposed the decision to re-grant Israel observer status in the AU.
