Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Galant announced that his army “will move very soon” in northern Israel on the border with Lebanon, where it exchanges bombardment daily with Hezbollah.
The minister informed the soldiers stationed near the border with Gaza that other forces currently deployed in the Palestinian Strip will leave the area to deploy in northern Israel.
“They will move very soon,” Gallant said. “Then the forces in the north will be reinforced.”
He continued, “The forces near you… will leave the field and head towards the north, in preparation for what will happen next.”
He pointed out that reserve soldiers will leave their positions in preparation for these future operations.
Reasons for Israeli mobilization
Since the start of the escalation, more than two hundred people have been killed in Lebanon, according to a tally compiled by Agence France-Presse. On the Israeli side of the border, 15 people were killed, nine soldiers and six civilians, according to the Israeli army.
On Monday, Gallant confirmed that Hamas fighters lack supplies and ammunition and that the war will continue for several months.
The war between Israel and Hamas broke out on October 7 as a result of an unprecedented attack carried out by Hamas on Israel from the Gaza Strip, which resulted in the killing of 1,140 people, most of them civilians, the majority of whom died on the first day, according to the Israeli authorities.
Israel responded to the worst attack in its history with an air and ground campaign on Gaza, and pledged to eliminate Hamas. Its campaign resulted in 26,637 deaths, the majority of whom were women and children, according to the Ministry of Health in the Gaza Strip.
