Earlier on Saturday, Israel issued a stark warning to Palestinians who have not yet evacuated northern Gaza.

– It is a matter of hours before Israel starts a significant military operation, says Lieutenant Colonel Jonathan Conricus from the Israeli military to The Express Saturday.

He asks residents to leave the area immediately for their own safety.

The deadline to evacuate was 15:00 Saturday Norwegian time.

– The deadline is less important. The important thing is that the people of Gaza listen and do what we ask of them immediately, says Conricus.

The time is up

Exactly one week after Hamas attacked Israel, the world is now holding its breath after the deadline for evacuating the civilian population from north to south in Gaza expired at 3 p.m. Norwegian time.

This after Israel first extended the deadline, which initially expired last night.

The evacuation order is believed to be related to Israel’s announced ground invasion of Gaza, which is aimed at Hamas. The order has provoked strong international reactions, as it concerns 1.1 million inhabitants who live in the north of the Gaza Strip.

On Saturday evening, the Israeli military said in a statement that it was preparing for a coordinated attack on the Gaza Strip, including air, ground and naval forces.

Shortly afterwards, Admiral in the Israeli military, Daniel Hagari, makes a new appeal to the Palestinian people in Gaza.

– We will attack Gaza City very soon, he says according to the AP news agency.

It is not clear how many are still in the north of the Gaza Strip, where Gaza City is located. Juliette Touma, spokeswoman for the UN, says according to AP that the only thing they know for sure is that hundreds of thousands of people have fled, and that a million people have been displaced in the last week.
