Israeli Combat Jets Hit Iranian Force Base in Syria

Jakarta, CNN Indonesia

Israel launch an air strike to Syria on Wednesday (18/11) which killed three soldiers and hit a military target Iran in a counterattack, after it found an explosive device along the northern border.

A statement from the Israeli military said its fighter jets hit “military targets belonging to the Iranian Quds Force and and the Syrian Armed Forces” in an overnight strike.

The targets include Syria’s “storage facilities, headquarters, military complex and surface-to-air missile batteries”.

Reported AFP, the Syrian state news agency, YOU, said the attack killed three of his soldiers and injured another.

Israel has carried out hundreds of air and missile strikes against Syria since the civil war erupted in 2011 targeting Iranian and Lebanese Hezbollah forces and government forces.

On Tuesday, the Israeli military said it had found an improvised explosive device (IED) at the side of the border crossing point with Syria.

Israel and Syria share a border along the Golan Heights that Israel has occupied since the Six Day War in 1967.

According to an Israeli military statement, IEDs were “stationed by Syrian forces led by Iranian forces”.

Iran was a key ally of the regime of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad during a civil war that has killed more than 380,000 people, and the war erupted after the brutal repression of anti-government protests.

The Israeli army “holds the Syrian regime responsible for all actions taken on its territory and will continue to operate as necessary against the Iranian stronghold in Syria”.

The air strike came just hours before US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo landed in Israel for talks, including on Iran.

Pompeo’s visit will likely be his last visit to Israel before President Donald Trump leaves the White House.
