TEL AVIV – Diplomatic-security cabinet meeting Israel on Thursday night it turned into a heated argument. Officials clashed after efforts to investigate the Israeli military breach in the attack Hamas on October 7, 2023.

The cabinet meeting was held to discuss the future of the Gaza Strip, Palestine, after Israel’s war against Hamas ends.

However, members of Parliament clashed with the chief of staff and the defense establishment over an investigation into Israeli military misconduct and behavior surrounding the Hamas attack on the Jewish state on October 7.

Lawmakers said that the investigation, which was launched to look into the failure of preparations to deal with the attack, was promised to begin as soon as the war in Gaza ended.

Reports in Israeli media said the cabinet meeting lasted three and a half hours, before it “exploded” into fighting.

Israel Defense Forces Chief of Staff Lieutenant General Herzi Halevi, National Security Minister Itamar Ben Gvir, Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich, and Transport Minister Miri Regev were among those involved in the intensive discussions.

Regev said the decision regarding the investigation was made without the knowledge of members of Parliament, arguing that the military should be fully focused on the current battle.

Discussions about what should happen after the war in Gaza have revealed deep ideological divisions within the government coalition, with Ben Gvir and Smotrich reiterating their belief in the meeting that Palestinians in Gaza should be permanently expelled and replaced with Israeli settlers.

Another point of contention at the cabinet meeting was the announcement that the investigation would involve the former defense minister, Shaul Mofaz.

The decision caused dissatisfaction among right-wing politicians, due to his involvement in the unilateral withdrawal of Israeli troops from Gaza in 2005 and being a key figure in security coordination with the Palestinian Authority.
