Israeli Authorities Urge Citizens to Reconsider Travel Plans and Hide Jewish or Israeli Identities

On Friday, Israeli authorities urged their citizens to reconsider any travel plans abroad, and called on those who travel to avoid showing their Jewish or Israeli identities.

In a joint statement, Israel’s Foreign Ministry and National Security Council said Israelis should “evaluate the substance of their travel plans” before leaving, and “take additional precautions” while outside the country.

“Israeli embassies and airports that receive flights from Israel, as well as Jewish communities and religious institutions abroad, are a prime target for anti-Semitic protest events and attempted attacks,” the announcement said.

The statement called on Israelis “not to visit countries that have travel warnings, especially Arab and Middle Eastern countries, the North Caucasus countries, and those bordering Iran.”

“Those traveling to countries that do not have travel warnings should be aware of protests” against Israel, the statement said.

It also advised Israelis to refrain from discussing “service in the Israeli security services, including the army” with strangers.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the National Security Council had previously raised travel warnings for a number of countries, and called on Israelis visiting them to leave as soon as possible, including Egypt, Jordan, and Turkey.

Earlier this week, new advice was issued to Israeli citizens to avoid traveling to the Russian North Caucasus, stressing that “those who are there must leave,” after riots at an airport in Dagestan in protest against receiving a plane arriving from Israel.
