Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia- Russian President Vladimir Putin warned that the current escalation between Israel and Palestine poses a direct threat to Russian security.
In a meeting of the Russian Security Council, Putin suggested discussing the situation in Jerusalem and the Gaza Strip before any other agreed agenda.
“I would like to ask my colleagues to comment on the current situation in the Middle East, I mean the escalating Palestinian-Israeli conflict – this is taking place around the Russian border and directly affecting Russia’s security interests,” he said, as quoted by Anadolu.
Tensions have risen in East Jerusalem since an Israeli court ordered the eviction of Palestinian families, which was later postponed. The Palestinian solidarity that carries out has become the target of Israeli forces.
The escalation in tensions resulted in Israeli air strikes on Gaza, which left at least 119 people dead and 830 injured, according to Palestinian health authorities.
Israel occupied East Jerusalem during the 1967 Arab-Israeli war and annexed the entire city in 1980 – an act never recognized by the international community.
