Israeli Army Storms Gaza Strip, Threatening European Hospital in Khan Younis

Despite the fact that the Israeli army (IDF) announced last week that they are now attacking the Gaza Strip on “a lower scale” than before, the war seems to be getting closer and closer to the Gaza European hospital in the town of Khan Younis, where Erik Fosse and the Norwegian the health delegation is.

According to Reuters are the battles in Khan Younis “the bloodiest so far this year”.

– Last night there were fierce battles over Khan Younis. The house we live in has been shaken by the explosions, says Fosse in a message to Dagbladet.

– Bombs everywhere

Fosse reports that the hospital did not admit that many injured people in the last 24 hours.

– It is because the ambulances could not evacuate the injured, according to Fosse.

The employees who come from Khan Younis are not at work today, because the IDF controls the road, according to the Norwegian doctor. Al Jazeera and several other media are reporting heavy fighting in Khan Younis, and that it is increasing in scope.

– They are bombing everywhere around us, says doctor Ahmed al-Moghrabi at the Nasser hospital to Al Jazeera on Monday.

Another source told Al Jazeera that the IDF “shoots at everything that moves”.

Dozens of people are reported to have been killed. Al Jazeera reports that “both hospitals, ambulances and schools where thousands of civilians live are now affected”.

Leave the hospital

According to Erik Fosse, the road to the even more southern city, Rafah, is still open.

– During the night, 10,000 people have left the hospital area, according to the hospital. It fits with our impression that the bustling public life between the tents is absent today, writes Fosse.

He further reports that people are afraid that “the IDF will surround the hospital and then they will be trapped”.

– They know what has happened to those who have been caught in the same way in the north and are very afraid of it. Arbitrary arrests, harsh interrogations and the like, writes Fosse.

Just over a week ago, Fosse reported that around 25,000 Palestinians lived in the hospital area, because they considered it safest in Khan Younis. S

Over 25,000 killed

Since Hamas attacked southern Gaza and killed 1,200 people in southern Israel on October 7, at least 25,295 Palestinians have been killed in Gaza, writes Reuterswhich obtained the figures from the Gaza health authorities.

Most of Gaza’s over 2.2 million inhabitants are now located in two cities in Gaza: Deir el-Balah and Rafah, which are just north and south of Khan Younis, respectively.
