Israeli Army Radio confirms largest missile salvo fired from Gaza Strip hits Netivot, officer killed in southern Gaza – latest updates

On Tuesday morning, the Al-Qassam Brigades, the military wing of the Hamas movement, fired a large missile salvo targeting the settlement of Netivot, while Israeli Army Radio confirmed that the missiles were fired from the area from which the army forces withdrew on Monday.

The Israeli Broadcasting Corporation reported that a missile directly hit a building in Netivot on the border of the Gaza Strip, while Israeli media reported that the last missile salvo fired from the Strip included 50 missiles, indicating that it was the largest to target this area in weeks.

Israeli Security Minister Yoav Galant announced in a press conference, on Monday evening, the end of the “phase of the intensive military incursion” in the northern Gaza Strip, indicating that this phase “will soon end in the southern Strip.”

Also on Tuesday morning, the Israeli army announced that an officer was killed and two soldiers were seriously injured in battles with Palestinian resistance factions in the southern Gaza Strip.

The army noted on its website that this brings the number of officers and soldiers killed since the beginning of the war on October 7, 2023, to 523, including 189 since the beginning of the ground operation.

In addition, since Tuesday dawn, the Israeli army has continued its artillery and air strikes on the northern and central Gaza Strip, amid the disruption of communications and Internet services in the Strip for the fifth day in a row.

The bombing focused on the towns of Beit Lahia and Beit Hanoun, and was accompanied by intense gunfire from Israeli vehicles stationed on the outskirts of those areas, which was not usual during the past days.

The Palestinian News Agency “Wafa” quoted medical sources as saying that 11 martyrs and many wounded arrived at the Gaza European Hospital, following a violent bombardment by occupation aircraft that targeted a house in the Mirage area, north of Rafah, south of the Gaza Strip.

The death toll from the ongoing aggression on the Gaza Strip rose to more than 24,000 martyrs, while the number of wounded approached 61,000 with various injuries, in addition to the destruction of 70 percent of buildings and infrastructure.

In a related context, fears are mounting among the Israeli security services about rebuilding the military and authoritarian capabilities of the Hamas movement in the besieged northern Gaza Strip, according to what the military correspondent for Israeli Army Radio reported on Tuesday, pointing to evidence confirming the movement’s ability to do so in the wake of the end of the occupation’s intensive ground military operations. In the region.

According to Israeli Army Radio, the Israeli security services are monitoring a worrying trend in light of “Hamas’ attempt to restore its civilian capabilities in the northern Gaza Strip,” and stated that the security services are “monitoring attempts by Hamas to rehabilitate the local police in the northern Gaza Strip and extend its civilian control.”

The report stressed that the main fears are about the possibility of “Hamas succeeding in restoring its military capabilities in the region,” and cited examples from yesterday, which it said reinforce Israeli fears in this regard, including “the seizure of 60 missiles prepared to be launched in Beit Lahia, and the presence of resistance elements in the camp.” The beach, and a barrage of about 10 rockets was fired from Beit Hanoun towards Sderot.

He pointed out that the central questions raised are about the feasibility and timing of the decision to switch to concentrated operations in the northern Gaza Strip, and whether it would have been better to keep an entire military division to carry out large-scale maneuvers within the region and not reduce the forces there; and why is there talk about ‘the next day’ when This day has already begun in northern Gaza.”
