Israeli journalist Yossi Melman said that the Israeli army is obligated to disclose the number of detainees killed by gunfire in the Gaza Strip, days after the occupation army admitted that it had mistakenly killed 3 detainees.
Although Melman stressed that “it is bad to ask questions that might help improve the image of (the Islamic Resistance Movement) Hamas,” he stressed that the Israeli army is obligated to tell the truth, even if it is painful, he said.
Melman wrote – in a tweet on the website They won’t kill them.
The Israeli journalist cited what Hamas leader Hossam Badran told the American newspaper The Wall Street Journal that the occupation forces killed 60 Israeli prisoners out of 150 who were being held by the resistance after the truce and prisoner exchange deal between the resistance and Israel about a month ago.
Melman adds that Badran’s talk “may be a psychological war and a prelude to justifying their killing in captivity,” but he stresses the need for the matter to be clarified by the Israeli army, which previously indicated that there are 128 detainees in Gaza so far.
The occupying army’s novel
An investigation by the Israeli occupation army into the case of the mistaken killing of 3 Israeli prisoners in Gaza by its soldiers revealed that the dead were waving white flags and that one of them was calling for help in Hebrew, saying, “Save us,” and despite this, the force opened fire on them.
The incident occurred in the Shujaiya neighborhood in the Gaza Strip, which the occupation considers a difficult and complex combat zone.
The three kidnappers left a building dozens of meters away from the building in which an occupation army force was stationed. Then a soldier saw them leaving the building without shirts and carrying a stick with a white cloth. He considered that they posed a threat, and shouted to his comrades “terrorists” and began shooting at them.
According to the Israeli media, two were killed immediately, and the third, injured, fled into the building again, and began screaming from inside his hiding place, “Save me, save me” in Hebrew.
As soon as the third man’s scream was heard, the military commander – who had the rank of major – gave orders to cease fire, and here the wounded prisoner emerged reassured from the building, but a soldier quickly shot him and killed him, in violation of the orders of the field commander.
After the killing of the “hostages,” the occupation soldiers had doubts about the identity of the dead, so they were transferred to Israel, and after examining the bodies, it was found that they were prisoners of the resistance in Gaza.
