Israeli Army Eliminates Hamas Leader Hassan Akasha in Syria Near Golan Heights

The army said Hassan Akasha had been “eliminated” in the Beit Jinnah district, which is in Syrian government-held territory near the Israeli-annexed Golan Heights.

“He was an important figure responsible for the rockets fired by Hamas from Syrian territory into Israel in recent weeks,” the Israeli army said in a statement.

“Since the beginning of the war, Akasha led the terrorist cells of Hamas, which fired rockets from Syria into Israeli territory.”

Akasha has been killed amid heightened tensions in the region as Israel’s war against Hamas continues in the Gaza Strip.

This war began on October 7, when Hamas invaded southern Israel from the Gaza Strip it controls, killing about 1,140 people, mostly civilians.

Israel is responding to this Hamas attack with a ground, air and naval operation in the Gaza Strip. According to the Health Ministry of the Hamas-controlled Gaza Strip, at least 23,084 people, mostly women and children, were killed in this operation.
