Israeli Army Divides Gaza Strip, Surrounds Gaza City: Updates on Air and Ground Attacks

06 Nov 2023 at 00:17

The Israeli army has completely divided the Gaza Strip into two: “a North Gaza and a South Gaza,” reports IDF spokesman Daniel Hagari. Meanwhile, air and ground attacks are being expanded and Gaza City is said to be completely surrounded by the Israeli army.

“The units have reached the coast in the southern part of Gaza City and are maintaining control of the area. Gaza City is now completely surrounded. This is a crucial step,” Hagari said.

According to the spokesperson, civilians should still be able to flee to the southern part of the Gaza Strip. He made it clear: “This is a one-way corridor to the south.” Citizens can therefore no longer return from the south to the north.

The IDF has been calling on residents of the northern Gaza Strip and Gaza City for three weeks to temporarily move south, away from the core of the war against Hamas.

Bombing and ground attacks expanded

Hagari also said the army began expanding air and ground attacks into the densely populated coastal strip on Sunday evening. He called it an “important operation”. Various media are reporting an unprecedented heavy bombardment, especially in the north of the Gaza Strip.

The Israeli newspaper previously reported Haaretz that the IDF expects to enter Gaza City within 48 hours to shift fighting to the densely populated area.

The expansion of Israeli attacks virtually coincided with the shutdown of all communications and internet services in the Gaza Strip, which the Palestinian telecom company Paltel reported on Sunday.
